A 19-track compilation, follow up to Silva Screen’s Yé Yé Classics collection Swinging Mademoiselles
More groovy French pop from the 60s featuring Brigitte Bardot, Petula Clark, Jacqueline Taieb and Zouzou - the Yé Yé girls took a firm grip on American and British pop and gave it a sparkly Gallic twist, resulting in a vibrant form of music which in recent years has become highly collectible.
Highlights include Petula Clark’s elegantly laidback take on Jackie De Shannon’s US 1963 hit “Needles and Pins” (“La Nuit N’En Finit Plus”) as well as Zouzou’s “Tu Fais Partie Du Passe” and “Il Est Parti Comme Il Etait Venu” and “Ecoute Le Temps”, a wonderful piece of Brigitte Bardo whimsy from the TV programme “Saint-Tropez… Vole”.
Also featuring Cleo’s glittering and surreal “Madame la Terre” (Et Ron, Et Ron…), Elisabeth’s “Madame Superman” with overtly strange male interjections and Adele’s “Je Ne Veux Plus D’Accordeon”, a plaintive protest against the traditional chanson.
